More About The Mission

We are a registered Charitable Organisation (CC20883) and are accountable to the Conference of the Methodist Church. Between Conferences, the Mission reports to and participates in the work of Methodist Mission Aotearoa, the standing committee on social services of the Methodist Church of NZ, which in turn supports and funds the Methodist Church Public Questions Network.

Mission Statement

Our mission statement is "Creating Cycles of Hope™ by providing Change That Works: Enough Support and Challenge for You to Risk a Better Future." Following on from this statement are our four strategic imperatives.
  •  Distinctiveness: complementing not competing with other providers
  •  Client Alignment: respecting the intrinsic worth of every individual, working with them on their terms
  •  Community-Alignment: anticipating changing needs and leading community responses
  •  Balance: ensuring that our ambition does not rob us of our stability
We use genuine strengths-based practices Partners for Change Outcome Management System (PCOMS, refer www.heartandsoulofchange.com) for engagement, monitoring and evaluation; and as a result we understand that a lack of resources (information, skills, health, and finances) amongst those we work with is not the same as a lack of solutions (opportunities, talent, desire, and dreams). This approach sits within our model of engagement.

Model of Engagement

Our model of engagement is to move from

  1.  A positive first point of contact
  2.  To affirming the dignity of the people we work with
  3.  Toward establishing a trusting and respectful relationship
  4.  Which supports the re-emergence of hope and aspirations
  5.  All while clearing away the clutter
  6.  Toward the creation of transferrable resiliency
  7.  Enabling celebration at the achievement of goals
  8.  And finally, completion (and release) from service.

QualityWorks

As part of our work we have developed a complete quality assurance/engagement system called QualityWorks. It is a package that works incredibly well for managers and practitioners, ensuring clients get the best we are able to deliver.

The QualityWorks package enhances productivity via meaningful and measurable outcomes, something that allows clear and accurate reporting to funders, shows clear progress in change for clients, and allows practitioners and The Mission’s Practice Leader to have positive and targeted conversations around all client work. In effect, it allows the Practice leader to be ‘in the room’ with the worker and the client.

The QualityWorks package includes:

  •  Mission Programme Documents
  •  Mission Assessment & Formulation
  •  Mission Client Plans
  •  ExessTM CMS
  •  Partners for Change Outcome Management SystemTM (PCOMS)
  •  Mission MIS
  •  Mission KPIs
  •  Research & Data Mining
  •  Mission Practice Oversight

Benefits of QualityWorks

  •  Robustness - QualityWorks is research validated, measurable, consistent, transparent, structured and predictive.
  •  Performance oriented as it monitors each practitioner performance in real time, there are early indicators and clinical cutoffs, and it is focuses on the clients goals,
  •  Effectiveness - QualityWorks is transparent and validates the clients work, it focuses on building client resiliency, it surface client assets, and builds trust in agencies.
  •  Efficiency - The client does most of the work and provides most of the resources, change happens early, and reduces duplication of engagement.
  •  Cross-disciplinary – QualityWorks can be used in a range of disciplines; counselling, social work, education with children and adults, individuals and groups and multiple cultures.
  •  Data rich - QualityWorks shows a quantitative expression of the qualitative experience, is standardised, authentic and measures both client and practitioner progress.

Recognising the value of QualityWorks the Ministry of Social Development recently provided funding for The Mission to promote it and mentor organisations in its implementation.

PCOMS

One of the specialist tools we use is PCOMS (see www.heartandsoulofchange.com) which ihas been shown in 3 randomized clinical trials to significantly improve effectiveness in our work. Because of the 3 randomized clinical trials, PCOMS is recognized in SAMHSA’s National Registry of Evidence-based Programmes and Practices. PCOMS is a-theoretical and can be added to or integrated with any model of practice. Our model of practice is strength based. So this tool clearly shows, from the client’s perspective, when change is happening or when clients are at risk of there not being change. Research shows that if change is to happen, it will happen early. We use PCOMS to measure change and hence measure resilience.
